Sharp 14inch CRT CX34L3 — No raster/image repair

Sharp CX34L3

The set has an intermittent symptom that will refuse to turn on to display any images. The flyback transformer seems energised, drawing roughly 50 watts transient, then the power goes off, drawing roughly 5 watts only. This indicates a protect mode is on.

Diagnose

Opened up the case and discharged the tube. Upon checking the mainboard, found there are multiple traces on the mainboard near the flyback transformer is broken, due to the uneven weight distribution of the mainboard.

Repair Attempt

High voltage parts, not an easy trace repair. To repair the broken copper layer, I used low AWG wires to repair the trace and reinforced the PCB with super glue. Seal the exposed parts with extra silicon glue. The set is turning on afterwards.

Result

Stress test shows the TV is in a good shape.

The TV is reliably showing images after the trace repair.
