About
Retrology Repair is a one-person workshop in Wellington working on consumer and studio electronics from roughly 1980 to 2005 — the era where things were built to be opened, and where a schematic still fits on a page.
Most of what arrives here is not broken beyond repair. It has leaking capacitors, corroded contacts, a perished belt, or a cracked solder joint that thirty years of thermal cycling finally opened up. Those are fixable, and fixing them is almost always better than replacing the machine.
How we work
Every job is diagnosed before it is quoted, and quoted before any billable work happens. If a device turns out not to be worth repairing, you get told that plainly rather than getting an invoice for the discovery.
Repairs get photographed as they go and written up afterwards. Partly that is a record for you, and partly it is because someone with the same fault and the same machine will eventually search for it.
