Area 88 Arcade Board - No Image Repair
Capcom CPS-1 Area 88
This CPS-1 board arrived as dead, no image no sound. The board is overall good with a few factory bodges.
The standing out one is the JAMMA connector. The tip on GND is broken and the gold fingers has been resoldered onto. This is an easy to break part and will likely to fail during the repair.
Diagnosis
Power on, black screen with sync. The 5V drops to 4.3V is a bit concerning, meaning big power draw.
After gently nudging the JAMMA board, the game boots with POST and no sound, then main screen. Stopped at a point after the intro of the pilots.
The JAMMA edge connector can visibly seen has substantial worn and oxidation.
The board is largely good, but the JAMMA edge connector might be hard to deal with.
The repair
Cleaned up the solder blob. Resoldered the broken pin with flat end wires. Reinforced the PCB with super glue.
Fixed. But JAMMA edge connector needs extra care during use.
